Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 and was originally considered to be the ninth planet from the Sun. In 2006, with the introduction of the new definition of the planet, the platoon lost the status of the planet and was considered a dwarf planet.

Pluton został odkryty w 1930, uznano go za dziewiątą planetę, której poszukiwano już od dawna - bowiem obserwacje orbity Neptuna wskazywały na istnienie następnego ciała. W 2006 r, wraz z wprowadzeniem nowej definicji planety, pluton stracił status planety i został uznany planetą karłowatą.

Von seiner Entdeckung am 18. Februar 1930 bis zur Neudefinition des Begriffs „Planet“ am 24. August 2006 durch IAU galt Pluto als der neunte Planet des Sonnensystems. Nachdem immer neue und mit anderen Plutoiden weitere äehnlich große Körper des Kuipergürtels gefunden worden waren, wurde ihm der Planetenstatus aberkannt und er der eigens geschaffenen Kategorie der Zwergplaneten zugeordnet. Seine vollständige Bezeichnung lautet seither (134340) Pluto.
