Ecuador questions

The flag of Ecuador features three stripes: yellow, blue and red, as well as an emblem. The red and yellow stripes represent the Spanish flag, while the blue stripe symbolizes the ocean separating South America from Spain. A condor is shown at the top.

Mt. Chimborazo is a currently inactive stratovolcano, and the highest point in Ecuador. Earth is not a perfect sphere and bulges at the equator. Due to it's location extremely close to the equator, Mt. Chimborazo is farther away from the center of the Earth than the Mt Everest. It is also the closest point to the Moon.

Chimborazo location along the equatorial bulge makes its summit the farthest point on the Earth's surface from the Earth's center. Despite being 2,580 m (8,465 ft) lower in elevation above sea level than Mount Everest, it is 2,168 m (7,113 ft) farther from the Earth's center.

Just like Panama and El Salvador, the official currency of Ecuador is the U.S. Dollar. The switch from Sucre to USD in 2000 helped the country to achieve economic stability. Ecuador also issues centavo coins (but no banknotes), identical in size and value to their U.S. cent counterparts.
